The word 'glamping' entered our lives in 2005, through the play on of the word 'glamorous' and good old fashioned outdoor camping, leading to the recognised concept we see today. However it originated from the sixteenth century, thanks to the Scottish Duke of Atholl who in preparation for a visit from King James V created a prestigious glamping experience with tents decorated and furnished with fine decor and furniture from his own palace to accommodate the kings desire for luxury. History also tells us of their use throughout the African safari from the early 1920s, due to the wealthy Brits and Americans unwillingness to sacrifice home comforts and thus spared no expense to ensure luxury in the middle of the African wilderness.
The adaptation of camping was once portrayed as being exclusive to the rich and famous, but nowadays the concept of glamping is seen as accessible to the masses, with a range of holiday and wedding experiences available (similar to that at Haddon Copse Farm), and music festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival and the Isle of Wight festival offering glamping packages. The increasing popularity is due to the way it brings together the interaction with nature you get from camping while enjoying the simple comforts of home, from freshly made beds, sofas, showers, bubble baths, wardrobes and much much more. The magic of glamping experiences comes from dazzling views, secluded locations and a personalised service you wouldn't necessarily get from a hotel. Ultimately providing a doorway to endless adventures right on nature's door step.
